APEL, Association for the Study of African literature, was founded in 1983 and has behind it a history of work on the literatures of Africa but the African diaspora (Caribbean and Mascarene Islands in particular) in their different languages and Creoles. The website of the association ( APELL ) is very rich (see especially the links page, to other associations and publication and journals), a mailing list is in place to monitor the activities (workshops, meetings, publications) of the association. The association also publishes a journal, African Literary Studies with many thematic issues.
